These pictures were taken at Our Lady of Kazan Skete Monastery in

Santa Rosa CA, where Mother Susanna, my Spiritual Mother, is abbess.

Most images here are of Christ the Pantocrator, which is usually Christ enthroned, however, some of the close-ups of these icons do not show the throne. The most common translation of Pantocrator is "Almighty" or All-powerful, from the Greek words for "all" and the noun "strength" (κρατος).

The Byzantine Christ,  who is pictured here has a variety of styles, including a more Latin image, pictured above. Christ here is not only the Ruler, but also the Teacher, indicated by the New Testament he holds in his hands.     In the icon above right, Christ is teaching the woman at the well, who is known as St Photini in the Orthodox tradition.
